Patchouli oil comes from plant species with the genus Pogostemon. From the labiatae family, including lavender, mint, and sage. This plant has stiff stems, reaching 60 to 90 cm in height, and produces small, pale pink flowers. Plants are native to tropical Asia, and are now widely cultivated in China, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Mauritius, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Patchoulene oil components include alpha patchoulene, beta patchoulene, and alpha guaiene.
